Commonly Misused Words and Confusing Related verbs






Commonly Misused Words

1.            Council  –  Counsel
Council is group of people that assembles for discussion
Counsel means advice or guidance.
Example: 
·         The Counsil works  as a volunteer in africa for 6 days
·         The students need counsel from their teacher

2.             Accept     Except
Accept is a verb that means to receive.
Except is a preposition that means excluding.
Example:
·         Do you accept my email?
·         Except he wasn’t going to school

3.            Than   Then
Than(CONJUNCTION; used to show comparison)
Then (ADVERB; at that time)
Example:
·          I hope she better  than me

·         Then i saw her a few days  ago in seoul

4.            Peak —  Peek
Peak(ADJECTIVE or NOUN; highest point; top)
Peek (NOUN; a glance)
Example:
·          I can reach peak score if i study with him
·         She play’s  peek-a-boo with her son


Confusing Related verbs

1.       I — Me
I (PRONOUN; a subject of a clause or a complement pronoun)
Me (PRONOUN; a direct object, an indirect object, or an object of a preposition)
Example:
·         I think the answer will still be the same
·          Tell me if you need money

2.           Your — You’re
Your (PRONOUN USED AS ADJECTIVE; possessive form of you)
You’re (PRONOUN + VERB; contraction of you are)
·         Tell your kitchen staff i’m ready for lunch now
·         You’re allways with jackson

3.           Who’s  Whose
Who’s (PRONOUN + VERB; a contraction of who is)
Whose (PRONOUN USED AS ADJECTIVE; possessive form of who)
Example:
·         Who’s making this cake?
·         The dentist is with a child whose teeth are causing some problems

4.           Weather — Whether
Weather  (VERB; to bear up against. NOUN; the state of the atmosphere)
Whether (CONJUNCTION; an introduction of alternatives)
Example:
·         Do you know whether  he coming or not?
·         Today the weather is very nice
